    Will you build with us?

The Pestalozzi Children’s Foundation (PCF) is a unique Swiss non-profit organisation based in Trogen, Switzerland. We are committed to creating access to quality and equitable education for all children and young people in Switzerland and worldwide. The implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child forms the framework of our projects. The Children’s Village is a place of encounter and the heart of our foundation.

In Ethiopia, PCF works with local partner organisations to improve access to inclusive and equitable quality primary education. The projects of PCF and its three partner organisations in Ethiopia focus on creating safe learning environments, enhancing teaching skills, and ensuring continuity of education in emergencies.

    Training Objective and Participants

PCF provides funding to local partner organisations and aims to strengthen their staff capacities and skills to achieve programme outcomes. To support this goal, PCF is commissioning a short-term consultancy to update a teacher training manual (approx. 75-90 pages) on Child-Centred Approach (CCA) and introduce it to partner organisations in a training of trainers (ToT). The objective of the ToT is to both familiarise participants with the updated manual and enable them to cascade the training to target schoolteachers and thereby ensure the application of modern teaching methodology, Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI), reading and numeracy skill assessment.

The training participants will be selected from PCF’s partner organisations in Ethiopia which are medium-sized NGOs with intermediate knowledge and experience in CCA teacher training. A total of 15 participants (approx. five per organisation) including education project managers, education supervisors and other relevant personnel supporting the implementation of education projects, will attend the ToT. After the training they are expected to cascade the training to schoolteachers in the project schools.

    Tentative Agenda

The training content and agenda will be tailored to the specific needs and knowledge of the participants. The training materials will be developed in close collaboration with PCF Ethiopia Country Office and Headquarter.

The consultancy is expected to cover the following:

    1. After a desk review, the CCA teacher training manual should be updated (in Amharic and English) with at least

    • alignment with current curriculum of the Ethiopian Ministry of Education (MoE)
    • mainstreaming of Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI)
    • integration of Early Grade Reading Assessment (EGRA)
    • integration of Early Grade Mathematics Assessment (EGMA).
    • other updates are agreed upon between PCF and the consultant

    2. Develop an incident report

    3. Organise a validation workshop on the updated training manual with relevant stakeholders from the MoE, college of teachers′ education and universities

    4. Before the ToT, the consultant shall develop a needs assessment questionnaire and circulate it in advance to determine participants’ current knowledge and needs. The results of the needs assessment and the revised training manual will inform the detailed planning and agenda of the training.

    5. Facilitate a ToT to training participants (max 5 days)

    • familiarise participants with the updated training manual
    • teach participants on how to successfully cascade training to project schoolteachers.

    6. A follow-up assignment for the participants shall also be part of the consultancy package (participants return to their work and expected to cascade the training to schoolteachers and directors); the exact format will be agreed with the facilitator.

Note: The consultant is expected to provide the tentative agenda including content in the submitted technical offer.

PCF will share all required documents with the consultants for review ahead of the ToT.
